The actor Heath Ledger was found dead this afternoon in an apartment in Manhattan inhabited by the actress Mary-Kate Olsen, according to the New York City police. I'm not sure what it is - that it came so unexpectedly or that he's a month younger than me. Perhaps the most shocking thing of all is how quickly the news spread thanks to the Internet. Within an hour, Wikipedia had already updated its Heath Ledger entry to include the date and suspected circumstances of his death. I wonder if the police even had time to contact his family before they read about it online.
There is all sorts of speculation surrounding his death - overdose, suicide - not to mention the many questions - like what he was doing in Mary Kate Olsen's apartment (if it really is hers) - but the answers don't change the finality of his death nor the sadness of it.
