Could YOU work in these conditions?

So I may have mentioned that Hubby and I moved into a Very Brady (aka 70s FABulous) house when we relocated to PA. We have grand plans for home improvement, but they are coming along quite slowly (read: barely coming along at all).

The only room we've redone thus far is my studio because this is where I hoped I would spend most of my time. While I absolutely love my studio and do manage to craft in there while catching up on DVR'd soap operas, the reality is that I spend most of my time working, and thus I spend most of my time in my office. THIS office.

No, you didn't stumble upon some bad eye illusion. This is what I see each and every day from my desk: this vertigo-inducing checkered wallpaper.

Now I ask, is it any wonder that by lunchtime I'm shifting documents to my laptop so that I can work from anywhere but here?

And so the time has come. As much as I want to paint the cabinets in the kitchen, as badly as I want to gut the pink and blue bathroom, it is time to break out the wallpaper stripper and paint rollers.

Look out red carpet and checkered wallpaper. Tomorrow is your last day to torment me. This time next week, you will be on your way to wherever bad 70s decor goes to die.

It hurts my eyes just to look at that picture. Seriously, that would have been the first room I took on. When I moved into my house, the nursery was painted this very dark grape purple color. It irked me that someone would ever paint a bedroom this color. The moment we got the keys, I went in and began to prime the walls. Take care of that office...PLEASE

UGH UGH UGH! You are a strong woman to have sit and look at that every day. Paint! Paint like the wind!

My ideal office would be very open, airy and calming. I'd want lots of empty space (that wouldn't stay empty for long, I'm a bit of a clutter gal). I'm thinking, white, gray, soft cool blues and greens, etc. Then again...you haven't seen my house. It isn't 100% me yet - but that's the general idea I'm shooting for. Think -- sanctuary and refuge. Aaaaah. In my office, though, I suppose I'd need a little more warmth, too, to stimulate the mind somewhat. Maybe a splash or some deeper (jewel?) tones here and there to "wake me up"?

Have fun -- I have quite a bit of redoing to do myself! :)

OME! From a person who has been suffering from vertigo... I am speechless! I started to feel dizzy and woozy just trying to make out exactly what I was looking at! LOL! My Gosh Woman! How have you dealt with that?!?!
