Friday Five: Glimpses of my 365

One of the things I decided to start in the Jewish New Year was Project 365. I have tried this project for several years now and always seem to lose steam a few months into it. I had come to the conclusion as 2011 began that maybe I needed to wait until I had kids to do a daily photo project, but as the year progressed, I realized two things: 1) my life is more active than it was, and thus there is more for me to photograph; 2) I don't have to be perfect to do this - forgetting a day or two is not the end of the world, especially since there are many creative solutions, many of which I've learned about on my favorite scrapbooking gurus' blogs. Once I realized that this is something I could pull off, I couldn't wait until 2012 to do it; but, starting in the middle of the year seemed weird. Thank you, Jewish New Year! So, without further ado, here are five of my favorites from the past two weeks.

9/28
Getting ready for Rosh HaShanah, I felt good about
a new year, a new me, and a pretty new dress.

10/1
I loved this pink Cadillac that was on display at the
Walk for Life.

10/8
I had to pull over to capture the beautiful sunset I saw
on the way home from Yom Kippur services.
The sky matched my peaceful mood perfectly.

10/12
This is our Temple's Sukkah,
prepped for Sukkot dinner and services.
Our religious school kids did a great job of decorating
it the previous Sunday.

10/13
Hubby, having off for fall break, and I,
having off for Sukkot, enjoyed a picnic lunch
in the Sukkah before going to
a weekday afternoon movie.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Better late than never

Happy weekend!

Thank you all so much for your kind words on my last post. It's a comforting reminder that I have such supportive friends. ☺

So a few project follow-ups, and then I'll be back later with the first of a recurring Sunday post.

December Daily
When I decided to do a December Daily album, I knew (and admitted) that it wasn't going to get done in a timely fashion. It's surprisingly getting done a lot faster than anticipated (the silver lining to a lay off?), with about 1/4 done before the next December. Since I already did a lot of the journaling on my blog, I decided to go 100% digital. I'm going to print the pages 4x6 and slip them into a great album my FIL got me. The numbers are 31 Days Circle Numbers by Ali Edwards. All other elements are PSE 6.

Project 165 365
Last year, I attempted Project 365, where you take one photo a day for a year. In reality, it turned out to be more like Project 165. What's that saying about try, try again? Yeah.

If you're venturing to complete the same project, check out Project Life by Becky Higgins. She has a great digital option that will make it super easy to look back at your year in photos. Until it goes live (which will hopefully be next week), I went back to using ShutterCal to track the dailies (mainly because I absolutely love the calendar view).

Doing a little improvising

Sorry for the Project 365 overload. Participants have been sharing ideas, and the easiest way for me to do this is via my blog. I promise I'm working on a non-365-related post for those of you not interested in this.

Since I was not among the 4,000 people to take advantage of the Creating Keepsakes Project 365 kit, I'm doing a little improvising. Thanks to Becky Higgins and her team, the journaling and divider cards are available for download. I printed all the cards I need for the project on cardstock today and will cut them out while I catch-up on my soap operas this weekend.  :)

I opted for the We R Memories 6-up 4x6, 3-ring page protectors. This will allow me to showcase four photos and four journaling cards (two can fit in one 4x6 slot) on each page.

After hemming and hawing, I finally decided on the 7 Gypsies Naked Binder so that I can customize the cover to my taste.

I'm hoping to do the skeletal work (e.g., placing the dividers) once I get my materials. The plan is to keep up with my journaling weekly and print the photos monthly. We'll see, though. You know what they say about the best-laid plans.

Project 365 Update

Day 11 of Project 365, and I'm still on track. Yay! After much thought, I have finally decided to track my photos at ShutterCal. From here on out, I'll only post highlight photos on my blog. Daily pictures can be found on my digital photo calendar. If you're participating in this project, I'd love for you to share your link.

Project 365

Hello, blogosphere!

I'm back from a brief blogging hiatus (thanks to a very relaxing holiday break) and have decided to embark upon yet another project for the new year (as if I need another one).

The wonderfully talented ladies at Creating Keepsakes designed a kit called Project 365. The basic purpose is for you to take and scrapbook one picture every day for one year. Said kit is currently sold out, but I thought the idea was a great one. So, I am going to attempt to remember to take one picture every day in 2009. I'm not sure that I'll actually wind up scrapping them, but I thought it would be fun to at least blog about them.

Here are my first five pics of the year.

January 1

Hubby and I rang in the new year with a How I Met Your Mother marathon. We found a lot of similarities between me and Lily. Scary.

January 2

I bought myself flowers. Just because.

January 3

I wasn't feeling very well, so I persuaded Hubby to order in Chinese. I should have taken a pic of his meal, too. I am all vegetables, no meat; he is all meat, no vegetables.

January 4

A little taste of home. Salad dressing from one of my favorite Gainesville restaurants.

January 5

The dread of an all-day conference call. Not an attractive picture, I know. Hello, I work from home. You're lucky I wasn't still in my pajamas. And yes, that is hideously tacky wallpaper behind me graciously left to us by the previous homeowners. Trust me, it's one of the first walls to go. It will seriously give you vertigo if you stare at it for too long.
