Friday the 13th Fragments

My brain is all over the place this morning, and while I have a ton of stuff I should be doing, I thought I'd take a minute to share my randomness with you instead. It's not procrastination if it's sharing, right?

Mommy's Idea
  • In less than 12 hours I am FINALLY going to see one of my favorite bands in concert. Can we say excited?!
  • As the above photo would indicate, I'm a little obsessed with iPhone photo-editing apps. Almost all the editing I do these days is on my phone. Weird and cool all at the same time.
  • I have been crying my eyes out this week watching the final episodes of One Life to Live. I know it's just a show, but it's one I've been consistently watching ever since I can remember, and it feels a little like saying goodbye to a friend.
  • BUT I'm super excited that four of my favorite characters are living on as part of General Hospital. I'm seeing my long-awaited Michael Easton - Kelly Monaco reunion in my future!
  • Because of an unfortunate incident with some really cheap black Halloween paint nail polish, I've been keeping my nails colored for the past few months while waiting for the stain to grow out. My latest color obsession is Cockatoo's Mystery by L'Oreal.
  • I am the worst returner in the world. Two coats that unfortunately don't fit came in the mail last month, and they're still sitting in a box in my dining room. Similarly, a shrug I bought to wear over a dress is still hanging on my bedroom door after realizing that it doesn't look good with any of the clothes I own. I think the moral of the story is that I should no longer buy that which I'm not 100% sure will fit or look good.
  • Our "Happy New Year!" cards are still sitting on my desk.
On that note, it's probably time I stop procrastinating and start checking things off my to-do list. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Friday Five: Glimpses of my 365

One of the things I decided to start in the Jewish New Year was Project 365. I have tried this project for several years now and always seem to lose steam a few months into it. I had come to the conclusion as 2011 began that maybe I needed to wait until I had kids to do a daily photo project, but as the year progressed, I realized two things: 1) my life is more active than it was, and thus there is more for me to photograph; 2) I don't have to be perfect to do this - forgetting a day or two is not the end of the world, especially since there are many creative solutions, many of which I've learned about on my favorite scrapbooking gurus' blogs. Once I realized that this is something I could pull off, I couldn't wait until 2012 to do it; but, starting in the middle of the year seemed weird. Thank you, Jewish New Year! So, without further ado, here are five of my favorites from the past two weeks.

9/28
Getting ready for Rosh HaShanah, I felt good about
a new year, a new me, and a pretty new dress.

10/1
I loved this pink Cadillac that was on display at the
Walk for Life.

10/8
I had to pull over to capture the beautiful sunset I saw
on the way home from Yom Kippur services.
The sky matched my peaceful mood perfectly.

10/12
This is our Temple's Sukkah,
prepped for Sukkot dinner and services.
Our religious school kids did a great job of decorating
it the previous Sunday.

10/13
Hubby, having off for fall break, and I,
having off for Sukkot, enjoyed a picnic lunch
in the Sukkah before going to
a weekday afternoon movie.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Castles, palaces, and toys (oh my!)

Okay, my photo bug is getting worse. I took 231 pics today. My camera is going to feel so unloved once it gets back to the States.

Since today is a 12 of 12, I decided to select only 12 photos to share with you today. I'm a little too tired to scrap them right now, so I'll have to post the layout at a later date.

From top left: 1) pretty flowers; 2) artwork in Liberty Park; 3) a name placard that is as charming as the town of Sintra; 4) the "cool room" at Sintra National Palace; 5) the gardens at Sintra National Palace; 6) the ceiling of Blazings Hall at Sintra National Palace, depicting the coat of arms of every family that resided there; 7) army recruitment in Sintra; 8) Sintra Toy Museum; 9) the doll attic of Sintra Toy Museum; 10) Quinta da Regaleira; 11) Labyrinthic Grotto at Quinta da Regaleira; 12) beautiful tile work lining a Sintra street

Well, my vacation is just about over. I have only one day left here, and it'll probably be pretty low key given that it's a Sunday, my dad's birthday, and the eve of transatlantic travel. With all that I've been fortunate enough to explore, there is still so much left unseen. I guess that just means I'll have to come back. J
